CD Projekt Red has unveiled The Witcher 4 with the game’s very first trailer, starring Ciri.
A beautifully rendered story trailer, depicting a girl being dressed and prepared for sacrifice to the evil of the world to save the village. Only there’s a Witcher in town who has to fight evil for them instead, and that Witcher is…. Ciri!
Here’s the blurb from CDPR:
“The Witcher IV is a single-player open-world RPG from CD PROJEKT RED. As a new saga begins, players take on the role of Ciri, a professional monster slayer, and embark on a journey through a brutal, dark fantasy world. Powered by Unreal Engine 5, it aims to be the most immersive and ambitious open-world Witcher game yet.”
We’re still many years away from the release of The Witcher 4, with CDPR confirming just a few weeks ago that the game had now entered full production.
This trailer is also a showcase of what CDPR is aiming for with the new game engine. CDPR has made the jump from their own in-house game engine to using Unreal Engine 5. That, as we’ve even seen from studios moving over from Unreal Engine 4, has had a significant impact on the production pipeline as developers and artists try to integrate features such as Nanite textures and Lumen global lighting into the game.
