Sandra Weil was one of the striking names on the opening day of Mexico Fashion Week. The platform undergoes a period of innovation – now supported by a new sponsor – and the Peruvian designer is part of this new chapter on Mexican fashion.
Weil’s newest collection, entitled Level8, got inspiration from the energy of Infinity, bound by a personal journey of confronting and overcoming fear. Visually that idea came to life through clothing with a medieval lead and mythological motifs. Conceptually, she used it as an opportunity to deepen her own mythology of her brand, with prints with dragons, mermaids and other beings.
That inner transformation was reflected outside. The show was opened with a striking look: a pleated tulle maxi skirt combined with a wool and organza jacket with asymmetrical cuts – too recognizable as part of its characteristic silhouette. It was feminine, but stripped of sweetness and delicacy.
As the show progressed, every look added new layers of complexity, with which we presented the talent of Weil for mixing fabrics and prints. This time she worked in stylized metallic mesh. One of the highlights was a golden metal corset that, in the story of the collection, looked like the perfect armor to compete and face your fears.
Another subtle but consistent element ran everywhere: folding and curtains that brought fluidity and movement to coats and flodige pants, often with a detail on one hip. “Our customization has evolved for years. It is part of our constant curiosity and dedication to learn. What drives us is Couture – the art, craft and skill that is really in the heart of fashion,” Weil Backstage shared. Today she proudly leads an internal team of 50 people, to manage everything, from embroidery to prints.
The accessories were designed by Romo Herrera, a jeweler house that is known for sculptural pieces, including the remarkable dragon scale-inspired chain of the show worn by the Mexican actress Aislinn derbez. Some looks were also Ugg Boots, part of a special collaboration for the catwalk.
“As soon as you conquer your fears, you are working on an infinite energy – where there is no good or bad. Everything flows. That is the message: once you pass fear, everything comes and goes naturally,” she concluded.
