A major update is coming to Palworld in December, with the addition of a huge new island to the game. Pocketpair has also unveiled a crossover collaboration with Terraria for their monster-catching survival game due out in 2025.
There are few details to share at this time, but the new island will be approximately six times the size of Sakurajima, which was added in the last major update in June. This new location will provide “Powerful tower bosses and many evil new species of Pals lurk here.”
They also promise: “A large amount of new content will also be added.”
Palworld launched early access on PC and Xbox early this year – the console’s exclusivity went hand-in-hand with its first day on Xbox Game Pass – before spreading its adorable monster wings to PlayStation in September. The game really took the world by storm, with the ‘meme game’ concept of Pokémon with guns catching people’s attention, but then also appealing to core gamers by focusing on other popular genres like survival and base building.
However, that success has brought with it a lot of criticism. In September, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company announced a lawsuit against the indie developer, apparently alleging infringement of a recently obtained patent for capturing and summoning monsters in battle. Pocketpair promised to fight this lawsuitand it feels like Nintendo’s case may be a bit shaky and vague… although we don’t really know how the Japanese courts will judge the case.
We’ll just have to wait and see, but even with the specter of legal trouble in the background, it’s good to see Pocketpair making progress with major updates like this.
We expect to see more news in due course, with The Game Awards likely a possibility for some sort of reveal or announcement.
