Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot recently made a statement claiming that Ubisoft is not trying to push an agenda.
The statement comes after months of backlash from critical fans following the announcement Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Fans are critical of Yasuke, an enigmatic historical figure included as the protagonist, while also claiming that Ubisoft is aiming for a degree of historical accuracy.
Critics of the game claim that Yasuke’s historical importance is exaggerated to promote an agenda, while the game’s defenders believe the complaints are based on racism.
Here’s the full statement Game radar+:
“Let me address some of the polarized comments surrounding Ubisoft lately. I want to reaffirm that we are an entertainment company that creates games for the widest possible audience, and that our goal is not to push a specific agenda. We remain committed to creating games for fans and players that everyone can enjoy.”
Although it is unclear whether Guillemot meant this in response to the Assassin’s Creed Shadows criticism, the timing of this statement comes immediately after Ubisoft decided to postpone the game to February next year.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows will launch on Windows PCs on February 14, 2024 (via the Ubisoft store), Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and Amazon Luna.
