It’s hard to believe how quickly 2024 has gone by now that we’ve finally entered the new year of 2025. And don’t forget: we are already halfway through this decade.

The first half of the 1920s had some great titles, but was also marred by releases that likely resulted from the pandemic that affected work everywhere.

So let’s see how the second half of this decade will start with these upcoming January games:

Wars of Freedom Remastered

While a remaster of a game may not be the way most would want to start a new year, Freedom Wars brings a classic previously only available on the PS Vita to more available hardware with vibrant improvements to the visual graphics of the original.

In a world where living is a sin, players face dangerous missions in the hope of one day gaining their freedom as they engage in fast-paced 3D RPG battles as they struggle for survival against massive and powerful enemies.

Freedom Wars Remastered releases itself from the PS Vita on January 9 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC (via Steam).

Blade Chimera

Blade Chimera is the latest metroidvania to release to start the new year. Players take on the role of Shin, a demon hunter with no memory of his past. While battling powerful demon enemies, he becomes an ally to a sword known as Lux, a demon.

Blade Chimera contains many staples of Metroidvania goodness, as players explore beautiful 2D pixel environments while battling enemies and traversing dangerous terrain thanks to Lux’s numerous abilities to aid Shin.

Blade Chimera is scheduled to launch on January 16 for Nintendo Switch and PC (via Steam).

Dynasty Warriors: Origins

The classic giant battlefield brawler returns with Dynasty Warriors: Origins. This takes the franchise to new heights as players take on the role of an ‘unnamed hero’ during the story of the three kingdoms.

While the hero may not know much, not even his own name. He is still more than capable of fighting literally hundreds of enemies in the style the franchise is known for, as he fights and meets many different characters with their own unique motivations and beliefs.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins will be released on January 17 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC (via Steam).

Tales of Graces f remastered

Tales of Grace f returns with this remaster that brings the classic title into the modern era with new quality of life changes, graphical updates and the DLC from the previous launch.

Players can still expect the same classic story and gameplay that has made not only the game, but also the franchise popular for decades, as they engage in battles with the Style Shift Linear Motion Battle System that allows them to achieve victory in battle. Plus, there’s also the post-story once the main storyline is completed.

Tales of Graces f Remastered launches on January 17 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam).

Synduality: Echo of Ada

Set in the year 2222, long after most of humanity has been wiped out, players will take on the role of a ‘wanderer’ in this PvPvE multiplayer game as they fight for limited resources on a dangerous planet.

Piloting their “CradleCoffins” they team up with several unique AI companions in their fight for survival, where one wrong move could mean losing everything.

Synduality: Echo of Ada will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC (via Steam) on January 24.
