Ludovico Bruno created his brainchild, Mordecai, inspired by his passion for travel. For him, nomadism represents a spiritual journey, driven by the curiosity to connect with people with different perspectives, customs and cultures. This open-mindedness turns travel into journeys that go beyond just following the curated IG feeds of travel bloggers. “I named the collection The Intelligence of Others because, for me, travel is about embracing humanity and its differences,” he said.

Bruno is an experienced designer; his collection showed a distinct style and impeccable craftsmanship. His approach to travel-inspired design emphasizes versatility and multi-functionality; While the silhouettes may seem bulky and oversized, they were surprisingly lightweight and can be easily transformed by peeling away layers with clever use of snaps or Velcro. The pieces were made from lush fabrics, such as pashmina, cotton muslin and silky textures, and the predominantly neutral color palette further accentuated their lightness.

A collector of textiles and carpets from his travels, this season he has transformed the patterns of the Uzbek Suzani into decorative prints on silk nylon charges, formed in an eight-round shape, and on the lining of protective piuminos; the striped black and white Berber kilims were loosely referenced in the thick wool kimono jackets, inspired by the martial arts uniforms Bruno wears while practicing judo. He also offered a few looks for women, adjusting the proportions slightly to create more streamlined, lighter silhouettes.

Mordecai’s aesthetic is layered, protective and commanding, feeling both primal and futuristic: “The outerwear acts as a shield, a combat uniform yet remains comforting, gentle and respectful,” said Bruno. He presented the collection through a dance performance, in which dancers wore his creations and moved in a seamless circular wave to the music of Igor Stravinsky’s ‘The Rite of Spring’. Under the insulating surface of his quilted shells, Bruno is a true romantic through and through.
