With the return from Miguel Almiron to Atlanta United and Jhon Duran’s reported EYE opening € 77 million move to Al-Nassr, it has been a good day for Major League Soccer. The relocation of Duran makes him the biggest sale ever of the competition in total value after time to spend time with the Chicago Fire as part of the transfer allowance, the MLS club will go, while Almiron’s relocation for around $ 10 million to return To turn from Newcastle United is the fourth largest purchase in MLS history.
It was a pretty busy window with four of the top 10 largest purchases ever – including a record purchase of Vooruit Kevin Denkey – all take place during this current winter transfer window. With Denky, Almiron, Hirving Lozano and Myrto Uzuni who all come to MLS, the competition shows that it can compete with European competitions for top talent, while Duran’s movement shows the benefits of taking risks on younger players and how they can pay off. These figures can be even larger with Atlanta United who pursues a striker who could also establish a new incoming record.
While the club World Cup is preparing to be central this summer in America and the World Cup will follow in 2026, the competition is in a great position because they are preparing for more eyes to be on it than ever before.
From Newcastle with Love
Originally signed from Lanus in 2017, Almiron became one of MLS’s greatest success stories, but he returns to Atlanta United to keep writing his story. Atlanta helps to win the MLS Cup in the 2017-18 season, the Argentinian immediately put itself on the map. He would spend another season with the five stripes before he made the leap to Newcastle United in the Premier League for a record of € 24 million at the time.
But Almiron not only made the leap to the Premier League, he was able to stay six seasons with Newcastle United with 23 goals and six assists by 186 Premier League performances. Almiron perishes as one of the best exports of Major League Soccer, but at the age of 30 he still has enough to give Atlanta United in his return.
After he was a shock team to make the play -offs in what a reconstruction season should be, this is a side of Atlanta looking for the top of the Eastern Conference. Under the leadership of an ambitious owner in Arthur Blank, they have not been afraid to put money to improve the team. Still looking for a striker, the reported reimbursements behind Arthur Cabral and Emmanuel Latte Lath, who pursue Atlanta United, can break the incoming transfer record of MLS. Atlanta has been one of the most ambitious parties in the competition and already has six of the top 10 transfer costs that have been paid for incoming players, but they have also had three of the top 10 outgoing transfers.
Only time will learn if that can lead them back to the top of the Eastern Conference table, but the pieces will be there for new head coach Ronny Deila who goes into the season.

Duran Duran
Duran was signed for around $ 2 million from Envigado FC by the Chicago Fire in 2021 and is one of the characteristics of the U-22 initiative with which teams could lower the CAP hit for young players and they wave and hit the young Speck. Although Duran’s time in MLS was short, it was clear that he was an emerging talent, so Aston Villa then invested in signing him for a record compensation of € 20.15 million. Adding that the fire could also win € 4 million more due to performance clauses and a sale of 15% maintained, his breakout season played many heads.
At the start of the season not moving to West Ham, Duran gave the chance to show what he can do to score 12 goals in all competitions, to be able to lead the line or get off the bank and a Change to change to only 21. There is increasingly involved in transfer rumors, it was the Saudi Pro League that came in with an offer that was too good to refuse. That second sale could yield the fire around $ 8.7 million, which would make a record sale in total value for MLS.
Although the fire has reached all their limit about how much of the sale of Duran can be placed in the direction of general allocation fee to be used on the direct schedule, they can still use this money to finance other efforts. The fire brigade’s ambition has already opened a new training facility, the Endeavor Health Performance Center.
They have been busy outside of season under the guidance of a new head coach and general director Gregg Berhalter and want to break their line to miss the play -offs. By adding players such as Duran and Gaga Slonina, and they can help to take the next step in their career, it is only to set up the attraction for talented young players to choose Chicago as a destination.
It is perhaps rare that players like Duran make a leap to Saudi Arabia, but it is a huge opportunity for him. After they have moved from Colombia at the age of 18, such movements can be opportunities for athletes to find stability for their families and themselves and it will only improve his profile because he becomes a regular leader for the Colombian national team. With more eyes on MLS and the competition that takes larger fluctuations on players by the season, it is only a matter of time until the next Duran comes by.
