The 2024 MLB trade deadline, scheduled for next Tuesday at 6:00 PM ET, is less than three days away. We’ve already seen several big names trading in recent days — Randy Arozarena to the Mariners, Jazz Chisholm Jr. for the Yankees, etc. — and you can bet there will be more to come between now and deadline day. Now here are the latest deadline rumors.

Rangers add Kelly from Detroit

player's head shot

The Texas Rangers acquire veteran catcher Carson Kelly from the Detroit Tigers This was reported by Ken Rosenthal of Athletic. It is not yet known what the Tigers will get in return, but it appears to be a modest return. This season, Kelly, 30, has a slash line of .242/.327/.393 with seven home runs in 59 games. Over his career, he owns an OPS+ of 86 over parts of nine seasons in the big league. Kelly is owed the balance of a $3.5 million salary for 2024 and will be eligible for free agency next winter. With the reigning champion, he thinks he can provide catching depth behind switch-hitting regular Jonah Heim.

Blue Jays listen on Kiner-Falefa

player's head shot

I already traded Danny Jansenthe Blue Jays open to offers for Isiah Kiner-Falefa, according to Sportnet. Unlike Jansen, Kiner-Falefa is not a rental. He is signed through next season with an affordable salary of $7.5 million. Demand far exceeds supply for infielders this deadline. It only makes sense for Toronto to listen and see what teams have to offer.

The 29-year-old Kiner-Falefa is currently on the injured list due to a sprained knee. Players on the injured list can be traded, and Kiner-Falefa will begin a minor league rehab assignment next week. He is expected to return soon. Kiner-Falefa is having by far his best offensive season and can play almost anywhere, although he is at his best defensively at third base.

Dodgers interested in Edman, Hoerner, Rengifo

player's head shot

The Dodgers are looking to add reinforcements in the field and are interested in Cardinals super utility man Tommy Edman, Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner and Angels infielder Luis Rengifo. reports The Athletic. Edman has not played yet this season after offseason wrist surgery and a recent ankle injury. It’s unclear if the Cubs are willing to move Hoerner, who is signed through 2026.

Los Angeles is currently down with Max Muncy, whose recovery from an oblique strain has been slow, and Mookie Betts, who is making progress while rehabbing a broken hand. Injuries to Chris Taylor (groin) and Miguel Vargas (forearm) have further depleted the core of their position player. Even at full health, the Dodgers could use an infielder to partner Gavin Lux, and perhaps a center fielder.

Mets checked in Taillon and Fedde

In the wake of Kodai Senga season-ending calf injuryThe Mets have found Cubs righty Jameson Taillon, reports the New York Post. Taillon is being tested in New York after spending two productive years with the Yankees. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza was the Yankees’ bench coach during that period, so he and Taillon know each other. Taillon is owed $18 million in both 2025 and 2026 and would fill a long-term rotation need.

Also on the rotation front, This was reported by Anthony DiComo of MLB.com that the Mets have been in contact with the White Sox about veteran right-hander Erick Fedde. Fedde has been very effective this season after revamping his arsenal while playing in Korea last year. The 31-year-old is owed the balance of a $7.5 million salary for this season and is also under contract for $7.5 million through 2025. That’s bargain prices for a useful starting pitcher, and the Mets undoubtedly have company when it comes for potential trading interests in Fedde.

Sean Manaea has pitched well enough to opt out of his contract, meaning he will likely join Jose Quintana and Luis Severino as Mets starters to reach free agency. Senga, Tylor Megill, David Peterson and the currently injured Christian Scott is the only Mets starter under contract/team control in 2025.

Angels listen to offers for Rengifo, Ward

player's head shot

The Angels are listening to offers for infielder Luis Rengifo and outfield Taylor Ward, according to MLB.com. People in the game think they will be moved before the deadline and Athletics reports this the Royals are targeting both players. The Angels have already traded rental closer Carlos Estévez. Rengifo and Ward are both under team control after 2024.

Kansas City has already won more games this year (57-48) than last year (56-106), and they are a game ahead of the third wild card spot. They desperately need help at third base and in the outfield, Rengifo and Ward can fill two positions. It is likely that Royals will strengthen their attack between now and the deadline. A major one-stop-shop trade with the Angels seems possible.

The surging Padres have acquired late-inning righty Jason Adam from the Rays, the teams announced Sunday. San Diego will send three prospects to Tampa: RHP Dylan Lesko, OF Homer Bush Jr. and C JD Gonzalez. Adam, 32, has a stellar strikeout rate of 27.8% this season and has shown the ability to pitch in any role (closer, lineup, etc.). He is also under team control until 2026.

Lesko, the most notable of the three prospects, was the No. 15 pick in the 2022 draft. He had Tommy John surgery not long before the draft and has struggled with control issues since his return. Adam is the third notable player the Rays have traded in recent days, joining Randy Arozarena and Zach Eflin. Pete Fairbanks, Brandon Lowe, Isaac Paredes and others could be next.

Yankees, Padres and others report to Snell

player's head shot

The Yankees and Padres are among the teams that have checked in on Giants lefty Blake Snell, reports the Nieuwe YorkPost. Snell retired 15 Rockies in just six innings on Saturday. Since returning from a groin injury earlier this month, he has a 0.75 ERA and has held opponents to a .104/.179/.169 batting line in four starts and 24 innings. He’s been great lately.

The Giants are 52-55 and 4.5 games out of a wild-card spot, and Snell is leaning toward declining his $30 million player option for 2025 and re-entering the free agent market. San Francisco won’t be able to make him the qualifying offer and recoup a draft pick because he received it last offseason. They could trade Snell to avoid losing him for nothing in a few weeks.

Two NL Central teams are chasing Fedde

player's head shot

The Brewers and another NL Central team, believed to be the Cardinals, are pursuing White Sox righty Erick Fedde, according to The Athletic. Fedde gave up three runs in just four innings on Saturday, even though he has a 3.11 ERA this season and ranks second among all pitchers with 4.7 WAR. He is signed through next season with a very affordable salary of $7.5 million.

Fedde, 31, has proven to be one of the best bargains of the offseason. Last year he revamped his arsenal with NC Dinos of the Korea Baseball Organization and his success has translated to the MLB. Fedde won’t be cheap, but first and foremost, the Brewers are short on weapons. St. Louis is six games back in the division and just two games out of a wild card spot.

Angels’ García is drawing interest

player's head shot

Angels righty reliever Luis García is attracting widespread interest as the deadline approaches, reports the New York Post. The Halos traded closer Carlos Estévez to the Phillies on Saturday. It is almost certain that García will be next. The 37-year-old sinkerballer may not be an impactful, high-leverage reliever at this point in his career, but he’s qualified to be the third- or fourth-best reliever in a contender’s bullpen. There’s a good chance he’ll wear a new uniform on Wednesday.

Cubs add Paredes

player's head shot

With a little surprise, the Cubs have picked up Rays third baseman Isaac Paredes in a four-player trade with the Rays. Christopher Morel and pitching prospects Hunter Bigge and Ty Johnson are headed to Tampa. Chicago is listening to veteran players as the deadline approaches, including Taillon and nominal closer Hector Neris, but Paredes is under team control through 2027 and is a long-term asset. Tampa is in full teardown mode at the deadline, it seems.
