Please excuse the eyeball jelly. I just tore my face free from the screen it was attached to by the glitter and amphetamine infused super glue secreted by Mindwave’s mini-game barrage. The current one Steam demo is a generous slice of something awesome that the developers describe as a “cerebral microgame madness.” It’s something you play for five minutes before realizing, not unpleasantly, that you’re definitely in it now. It has completely consumed you, and it will be quite difficult to escape. Trailer below:
It’s set in a ‘cognitive reality game’ tournament, and your role as Pandora is to play frantic rounds of mini-games – most lasting just a few seconds before jumping to the next – in between chatting with the other participants. “MAKE YOUR WAY TO THE TOP OF THE MINDSCAPE TOWER. DIVE INTO THE MINDS OF YOUR OPPONENTS. BE consumed by the truth they speak to you, in this mind battle for sight and sound, hidden within each of us,” reads the Steam -page. Usually I would reformat the capitalization there, but honestly, Mindwave deserves the capitalization.
In the short time I’ve been playing, I’ve: won a pistol duel to the death, fed some Tamagotchi-like creatures, caught a cat, brushed some hair, unwrapped some bubble wrap, spammed some typing, and a few other things that came along. quick for me to remember. It’s all very twee, but quietly treacherous at the same time.
It seems like it has already taken off. The game is currently raising money for one full release on Kickstarterbut the socials of development team HoloHammer are already packed with fan art. Members of the team have previously worked on several smaller games, such as Run, Doodleguy! And INSOMNIARbut say this is their biggest project yet. The soundtrack of Dorkus64 is also a real highlight here.
