If there is a graceful way to embrace the passing of time, Manémané has found it. This year the brand marks its 10th birthday with a sense of introspection instead of nostalgia. “We want to celebrate the evolution of the brand, but always with our eyes firmly on the future,” said creative director Miguel Becer Fashion España moments for the show.

To mark a decade at the helm of his label, Becer chose to return to the runway – a format that he had set aside in recent seasons. In collaboration with 080 Barcelona, the show was a joyful comeback. “I enjoy working on collections with or without a show, but the team put his hand out, and with the birthday around the corner it felt like the perfect moment to say yes,” he explained.

Becer presented a catwalk collection steeped in elements of punk and folklore and resettled much of Manémané’s characteristic codes – only to transform them through a new lens. “Some of the iconic pieces from our universe – such as corsets – are back, but reinvented as a quilted coats or seamlessly woven into clothing, stripped of banging and structure,” he said. And faithful to the DNA of the brand, the clothing was both daring and experimental.

Indeed, the progressive spirit of the brand feels sharper than ever. Becer shifted away from the total appearance and leaned instead to pieces that stand and speak – for himself. “I want to get away from the idea that every piece should collaborate as part of a complete look,” he said. “I love brands such as Miu Miu, who, with stylist Lotta Volkova, have investigated this more well -founded, realistic approach.”

On the runway, the collection unfolded to the pulse of Techno, making it the scene for a mix of stripes, freedom flowers and checks. The combinations felt rooted in the underground culture, but prevented with the touch of folk tradition. In line with the eclectic spirit of the collection, sunglasses around the head, while shoes – developed in collaboration with the iconic Y2K brand art – had a lot of character. “Collaborations were the key,” Becer noted. This 360º proposition shunned the total look and offered everyone the chance to dive HeadFirst in the universe of Manémané.
