An ongoing joke in Hollywood is when actors say they’re going to retire, but they don’t – Jim Carrey is one such actor. Despite saying he’ll be retiring soon, the beloved actor said he’s “open” to a return Sonic 4 film.
When asked whether he would retire afterwards Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is available now, Carrey said: “I just decided that instead of retiring, I’m going to power rest between projects, I power rest.”
Carrey took it a step further and even teased that he’s definitely willing to return before it’s now confirmed Sonic the Hedgehog 4 film.
“I’m definitely open to it, I’m open to the idea,” Carrey told the Japanese site Cinema today. “Generally if they come to me with the next idea and I say ‘oh that sounds fun’, you know, I’ll do it.”
Carrey added, “I don’t feel tied to anything in life unless it’s something that interests me. I definitely love this crew, I love this gang that makes these movies, I love the fans.
“I think there’s a lot of great energy around it, great reaction, and the fans are jumping in and saying, ‘How about doing this?’ We are all making this film together.”
Another running joke is so similar to the Sonic the hedgehog video games, the eternal antagonist that Carrey plays, Doctor Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik, is constantly being killed off and brought back for the next entry. The films have followed this through each iteration.
The long awaited Sonic the Hedgehog 3 film just premiered on December 20, 2024, exclusively in theaters.
