Sega has announced a new one House of the dead live-action film they have in development with director Paul WS Anderson of the Resident Evil film series at the helm.
Details about the new House of the dead live-action films are few and far between, though Anderson will direct, write and produce the film with co-producer Jeremy Bolt. Sega’s Toru Nakahara will produce alongside Story Kitchen’s Dmitri M. Johnson, Mike Goldberg and Dan Jevons. Timothy I. Stevenson will executive produce.
This isn’t the first live-action film based on the iconic Sega zombie shooter series – the original House of the dead film was released in 2003 and was directed by Uwe Boll. A sequel film was released in 2005 and was directed by Michael Hurst.
Here’s an overview of the new film:
THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD series first debuted in 1996 as an on-rails shooter that offers fast-paced action and horror in a groundbreaking zombie world. In the games, players take on the role of AMS agents, a government agency tasked with thwarting the conspiracies of organizations that threaten the world. HOTD is a beloved series enjoyed by millions of gamers.
Paul WS Anderson is no stranger to action horror, or to video game-to-movie adaptations, as Anderson previously helmed AVP: ALIEN VS PREDATOR, and the cult hit EVENT HORIZON, as well as Warner Bros’ MORTAL KOMBAT and Capcom’s MONSTER HUNTER, alongside the wildly successful RESIDENT EVIL franchise. The latter included six theatrically released films, grossed over $1.3 billion dollars and became the longest-running video game-based film franchise in history.
Anderson’s vision is to transform THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD into a riveting, live action thrill ride that plunges audiences straight into the heart of the action. Scary, action packed and takes place in real time. The audience, together with the characters, only has 90 minutes to escape from the ultimate haunted house. Don’t blink!!
