Once Upon A Time – In those glorious days of Microsoft Messenger (MSN) and MySpace “Top Friends” – you could reach Eddie (not Edward) by sending an e -mail to his_eddie_not_edward@hompail.com. That address is now a remnant of simpler times, but the energy continues to exist and it is everywhere in this Edward Cuming collection, including on a T-shirt on which Cuming had turned his hotmail into a slogan. To clarify: the designer is Eddie, the label is Edward. If it works for him, it works for us.
This collection started, Cuming said, with a chain he found in a private museum in Ibiza. The man of the man who built the museum made colorful, funky jewelry with beads of all colors and sizes to sell in the gift shop. “They were just so beautiful,” said the designer in his showroom in Paris, “I could feel the joy she had simply combined in such a random way, and that’s how I work.”
Just like those chains, the clothing of cuming fascinating explosions of different shapes and colors that would feel random if they were not that attentive. He knows that even the most diverse things, when they are made by a person, often have a sense of intention. An example of this is one of the first dresses that are ready for this collection a fantastic slip with a black velvet-looking nylon skirt and gold lamé-lump trimmed with bright red fabric hanging on gray sweater. Sitting next to his racks in the showroom was an installation that worked with a friend; She had endless leftovers of sweater, sequins and other fabrics bound to make a huge, beautiful knot.
“I really wanted to focus this season,” Cuming explained, “in many of the techniques that have been built up over time, to be honing and elevated them a bit.” To his honor, that did not mean he withdrew, only that he was reluctant. There were a fantastic small athletic shorts in silk and denim in the mix. “I should send Juergen’s counter some of these!” He joked. And he should; Harry Styles or Paul Mescal would probably want the nice sequins skirts to be trimmed with feathers.
“It is being considered more now,” he said, of the way he is “pieces” together. For example, take a green silk skirt with one of its characteristic motifs, spiral -shaped lines that have been brought together. Last season’s version had rugged, edge -like threads that hang everywhere. It was back for spring with a bit of a trim, the shredding more polished. Moral of the story: embrace your biggest hits, whether it is a funky skirt whether your youth -e -mail is.
