Control 2, Condor and the Max Payne remakes are shaping up just fine, say Remedy

The weekend is coming at us like a bevy of hissing, barrel-throwing psychics, but there’s still time for some quick updates on Remedy’s Control 2, which Remedy says is coming along nicely. The same apparently applies to the multiplayer Control spin-off Project Condor and the remakes of Max Payne 1 & 2, on which Remedy is collaborating with GTA and Max Payne 3 developers Rockstar.

As communicated VGCRemedy reveals in their latest financial report that Control 2 has “moved into the production readiness phase”, after delivering “a build of the game showcasing several key features in playable form”. They are now “scaling up” for full production. Teaser trailer with targeted footage at any time, Remedy. I have yet to hear a telekinesis sound effect as satisfying as the one in Control.

The Max Payne 1 & 2 Remake, meanwhile, has “moved from production-ready to full production phase.” According to Remedy, the development team is currently working on a version of the game that will be playable from start to finish. As for Condor – which seemingly sees you join a dirty group of federal agents, stranded in the Oldest House – “the development team has been working on multiple maps and several mission types, and we’ve hosted a growing number of internal and limited external playtests for feature validation and feedback .”

In February of this year, Remedy acquired the rights to the Control franchise from 505 Games, giving them sovereign control over how and when Control games are published. Remedy also canceled a Tencent partnership codenamed Kestrel in May, freeing up resources and people for their existing franchises.

Since then, the latest financial release explains, they have “weighed up proprietary publishing and related business models, and discussed various partner publishing options” for both Control and the Alan Wake series. Apparently we can expect more “by the end of the year”. Here’s my pitch for the future of Control: create a spin-off series based on CTRL+ keyboard shortcuts. For example, CTRL+F could be a detective simulation, while CTRL+O could be an open worlder, and CTRL-Alt-Delete is a special mini-game I play with Alan Wake 2 when the ray tracing gives my PC a fit.
