Two of South Korea’s biggest male stars, Hyun Bin and Jung Woo-sung, will compete against each other in ‘Made in Korea’, an upcoming crime series.

Set in the turbulent 1970s, ‘Made in Korea’ is a crime thriller about Kitae, a man consumed by a desire for wealth and power, and Geonyoung, a tough prosecutor who stands in his way. The pair are constantly at odds and become involved in a groundbreaking incident that will change their future forever.

The series stars Hyun Bin (“Crash Landing on You,” “Confidential Assignment”) as Kitae and Jung (“12.12: The Day,” “Hunt”) as Geonyoung. Other cast members include: Won Ji-an, Seo Eun-soo, Cho Yeo-jeong and Jung Sung-il.

The screenplay was written by Park Eun-kyo (“Sea of Tranquility,” “Mother”) and Park Joon-seok (“A Normal Family”) and directed by Woo Min-ho (“The Man Standing Next,” “Inside Heren”). The production is in the hands of Hive Media Corp., which was previously responsible for the feature films ‘Inside Men’, ‘The Man Standing Next’, ‘12.12 The Day’ (also known as ‘Seoul Spring’) .

For Woo, it is his first TV series as a director. He is also behind “Harbin,” a politically themed action thriller that will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival next month and be released commercially in Korea on September 8.

The show will stream exclusively on Disney+ at an unspecified date in 2025.

The streamer recently announced that Kim Soohyun, star of ‘My Love from The Star’, ‘It’s oke to Not Be oke’ and ‘Queen of Tears’, will collaborate with Cho Boah (‘Tale of the Nine Tailed’, ‘Military Prosecutor Doberman”), in the Korean crime series “Knock-Off”, which Disney will also release in 2025.
The show delves into the murky world of counterfeit goods, following a man whose life is ruined in the aftermath of the 1997 Asian financial crisis, and setting him on a collision course with his ex-girlfriend, who is now a special police officer.

Disney is racing to build its Korean content library and has released ten shows so far in 2024. The upcoming Korean series includes ‘The Tyrant’, ‘Unmasked’, ‘Seoul Busters’, Light Shop’ and the crime thriller ‘Gangnam B- Side,” which will premiere as part of the Busan Film Festival (see below). Premium, talent-driven scripted dramas in 2025 include “Tempest,” “Low Life” and “Nine Puzzles.”
