Before we come to Stuart Vevers, isterribly– Good Resort Collection for Coach (or Winter, in The Brand Parlance) Here is something that he shared during the preview about where it all started. As a child, he and his brother would go to theater shows in his native Carlisle in the United Kingdom, where his grandparents would not only perform, but also be dressed in costumes of the design and making his grandmother. The Vevers -children would also get dressed, such as wearing Sailor suits when the theme of the show was a year South Still Ocean. Years later, his grandmother would help make clothing to go inside, so that he wants to sew the PVC trousers so that he could shake a tail spring.
Flash ahead a few decades later and this latest coaching collection speaks of him to those forming years. It has split a spirit of almost childish naivety with its usual infallible feeling of what now feels good. Patchwork jeans that have become a coach, this time in soft black washed denim. “It’s a celebration of the joy of dressing up,” said Vevers, “and it is what led me to use these personal references to my past. There is also a little imagination – I see that with the way my children will dress when they play – but here is based on this more difficult idea of Americana.”
What all this brings together, even the leather rabbit ears, crowns and swords of the collection (his children will have a field day when they get their mittens on them) is the warm familiar glow of family nostalgia, and an infallible feeling of the moment that his coach is about. It is also refreshingly onnic, which is perhaps the biggest characteristic, while it is all too easy to be cynical about so much that is going on, especially – especially – in fashion. (This joyful, life -confirming collection even heated the heart of this old cynic.)
