Oscar Wilde emerged as the latest muse from Carlota Barrera. The designer presented himself a whole story around the author, one who not only unfolded through the garments, but through a travel diary that accompanied the collection. In the middle was a Dorian Gray-like protagonist who took us on a compelling journey; At night he stepped out in a crispy stunned shirt and a flawlessly customized tuxedo-and unspoilt elegance that slowly faded as the hours passed, by rolled up sleeves and disconnected collars. “It’s about the journey of the items of clothing, how they transform, as he does, during the night,” Barrera explained. Weaving in this metamorphosis was a meditation about masculinity, femininity and the inexorable time.
In their core, the pieces reflected how clothing evolves with us. “I want to create collections with a life of its own – because life is finally revealed by the smallest gestures,” shared Barrera. It is a concept that the brand has already investigated for several seasons. At first glance, the garments seem to be torn or sad, but a further look reveals an almost obsessive precision in their construction. “That’s the playful, punk aspect of all this,” she said. “It may seem like everything has been torn apart, but every detail is carefully considered.”
Duality lies in the heart of Barrera’s vision, a balance to know the rules of customization and to know when they should break them. “There is a sentence that captures the essence of the collection,” she noticed. ” There must be chaos before the beginning of the great sparkle. “And indeed nothing was quite what it seemed: unexpected double collars, sashes that turned into belts, cufflinks with whale motifs on them, shirts sliding on the edge, and jackets that were finished in the inside of the line. It was a collection where items of clothing were intertwined and interaction, each marked by a subtle, subversive turn.
