Bulwark: Falconeer Chronicles is undergoing a change and an upgrade, developer Tomas Sala has announced. The first change is the name of the game, which evolves from Bulwark: Falconeer Chronicles to Bulwark: Evolution. The name change marks a new era of the game, including a new Total Conquest mode. Bulwark: Evolution is out now on PC.
Bulwark: Evolution’s Total Conquest mode, players will be at war with every faction of the Great Ursee from the start. Diplomacy is completely out of the question, with players dealing with regular raids and battles as they try to secure a path to safety and victory. The game also retains the original experience and freebuild modes from the original release.
Tomas Sala commented on the update saying: “You can’t get someone like me to run an Early Access campaign. I don’t even know at launch where the game will end up in six months, that would be a disaster. And here we are 5 months after launch and I’m still working as if every week is a new launch. The driving force for this is community involvement. People who come in and fantasize about what the game could and should be, or share their frustration when the game doesn’t meet their expectations. This has been a learning experience for me. Since my time with modding (Moonpath to Elsweyr), I have been looking for a way to return to a more communal form of development. I don’t like off-the-shelf systems and fixed expectations, so first the Evolving Demo was born and now Bulwark Evolution. My own way of creating a workable relationship with my audience and community, something modern, flexible and fast evolving, where updates come daily and not monthly and communication is direct and without intermediaries. Bulwark Evolution is not the end game; for me it marks what I consider to be the closest to a 1.0 version that I can deliver, but it’s just another starting point.”
In our Bulwark: Falconeer Chronicles review I said: “Bulwark: Falconeer Chronicles is an approachable take on the city builder for players of many skill levels. It encourages experimentation with the layout and exploration of your Ursee settlements, but some design decisions don’t feel as smooth as they could be, such as selecting buildings or interacting with other factions. If you’re a fan of city builders, you can sink hours into this, but don’t expect it to have the same depth as others in the genre.”
