Rebellion has released a new gameplay overview video for the upcoming survival action game Atomfall. Set after the real-life nuclear accident at Windscale in British history, Atomfall is an alternate take on what happened after the events, where many more things went wrong. Players are held in a quarantine zone where soldiers, bandits and other dangers lurk.
The Atomfall gameplay video gives us a look at the world, including the village you’ll spend a lot of time in, plus the wilderness and bunkers nearby. The start of the game will be quite Fallout-like, in that you’ll wake up unfamiliar with the world outside. The player character suffers from complete amnesia, which gives a great deal of freedom in how you survive in this world. You can try to help everyone or pose a threat to different groups. One of the groups present is the British army, which was sent to establish the quarantine zone. However, under the rule of the military, things are very strict, with even the slightest indiscretion being an excuse for them to punish you.
The military is not the only potential threat. It is more dangerous outside the boundaries of the village. Outlaws and bandits roam this area and pose a real danger to the player. They will attack right away, without worrying about whether you can be friendly. The old quarry, surrounding hills and other locations all have their own secrets to discover. They also have resources you need to survive the world of Atomfall. The bunkers are home to irradiated creatures and patrolling security robots, both of which players will also attack on sight. But these bunkers are crucial to discovering what happened, so they will have to be investigated.
Combat will be a mix of close-up melee combat, with cricket bats being a weapon of choice. There are also weapons such as pistols, shotguns and rifles, but since this is England, ammo won’t be easy to find. Using items from the environment, weapons can be upgraded to make them more effective against enemies. Crafting will also be crucial to survival, allowing players to create things like bombs and healing items. A metal detector will also be part of the player’s inventory, allowing players to search the ground for underground supplies. Tutorials can also be found in the world of Atomfall, unlocking new abilities for your character, such as weapon throwing. The skills are grouped into four categories; ranged combat, melee combat, survival and conditioning.
Atomfall will be available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5 and PS4 from March 27, 2025.
