Amazon Prime Video has ordered a series adaptation of the Carley Fortune novel ‘Every Summer After’ Variety has learned.

The series will be titled ‘Every Year After’. Leila Gerstein is on board to adapt the book for the big screen and will also act as showrunner and executive producer of the series. Fortune is also set for executive production.

“’Every Summer After’ holds a very special place in my heart and in the hearts of readers around the world who feel deeply connected to Sam and Percy’s love story,” said Fortune. “I’m thrilled to partner with Amazon to take their journey even further: beyond the pages of the book, to the screen and into the hearts of audiences around the world.”

The official logline for the series reads: “Six summers to fall in love. One moment to fall apart. A week to get it right. ‘Every Year After’ is a fun, compelling, romantic story that asks the question: what if your first love was actually your soulmate?

“Every Summer After” was originally published in 2022. The so-called BookTok online community championed the novel, with the hashtag “Every Summer After” racking up more than 81 million views on TikTok. The book spent 14 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list and has sold more than 1 million copies to date. Fortune’s other novels include “This Summer Will Be Different” and “Meet Me at the Lake.”

“We’re excited to bring the beautifully crafted story ‘Every Summer After’ to our global Prime Video customers as ‘Every Year After,’” said Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon MGM Studios. “Carley Fortune’s hugely successful book is the perfect blend of heartfelt nostalgia and poignant romance. Through Leila Gerstein’s vision, audiences will explore this remarkable story in a way that captures its essence and emotional depth.”

Gerstein recently created the Hulu series “Saint X,” which was also based on a novel by Alexis Schaitkin. She also created the CW series “Hart of Dixie,” which ran for four seasons. In 2017, Gerstein was part of the writing and production team on “The Handmaid’s Tale” when the show won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series. Her other writing credits include “Gossip Girl,” “The OC,” “Claws” and “Looking for Alaska.”

“I am so excited about the opportunity to bring this fun, romantic story to television,” said Gerstein.
