A Night Fit for Cleopatra: Save Venice Brings Venetian Splendor to The Plaza

Saving the floating city of Venice is not an easy task. Yes, the rising tides – or Acqua AltaAs the local population calls it – can now be kept partially at bay thanks to a large lank -up system, but the series of artistic treasures of the city continues to pass the test of time and the damage to moisture. That is where Save Venice Straps Into, the careful recovery of artworks in the many museums and Palazzi of the city finances.

To support these efforts, the organization organizes a big tour through fantastic masquerade balls in New York, Dallas, London, Los Angeles and, of course, Venice itself. The New York Gala last night at the Plaza Hotel – a cherished relic in itself – was a shimmering memory of the cause. In a scene reminiscent of the famous black -white ball from Truman Capote (minus the chickenhash), guests put on masks in all shapes, sizes and materials.

Oscar de la Renta and Monse Creative Director Laura Kim, who was wearing a metallic silver mask, decorated with dangling diamond tears, ironically returned from Venice earlier that day. “My incredible embroidery designer, Zachary Fernandez, made this mask to fit my dress,” Kim said Fashion. “It also corresponds to how I feel with my jet lag!”

This year’s theme has been brought from the world of Giambattista Tiepolo, whose Fresco’s Antony and the decadent banquets of Cleopatra depict, once decorated the ball halls of Venetian Palazzi. Alexandra O’Neill, designer of Markararar, borrowed a pink silk dress from her own collection that bore a striking resemblance to Cleopatra’s, accessorized with pink diamonds by Pasquale Bruni and a strict pearls who were injured in her hair – last minute, in the Manhatan garment district.

The Fresco was also a Lodestar for visionary visionary bronson van Wyck, who a lush setting of pearls, piaons, roses, and conceived Pali di Casada—The unmistakable candy striped posts that arise from the canals of Venice.

“Jean Harlow may have claimed that” no one expects a large layman to pay the bill “, but Cleopatra, in addition to her legendary erotic expertise, happened to be the richest person in the world,” Van Wyck said Fashion. “She is reportedly removed a gigantic pearl ring, drop it in a glass of vinegar and, after resolving. I cannot claim that we have served vinegar or dissolved pearls – or even nonchalance.”
